My distribution plan

For my magazine I plan on making an App and a website. On both i would offer the ability to subscribe to yearly memberships and would offer promotional offers, like a trial run with their first magazine before you commit to a full year or two. Also on my website i would offer insight to what you would be getting when you purchase the magazines. On my app I would offer all of my old issues of the magazine plus the ability to buy whatever one you wanted at the time. It would also be current and up to date. On top of online availability, I would try my hardest to sell in local stores in Sarasota, so the local people could have access to the newest issue.

Distribution Plan- BBC Good Food magazine

Image
BBC Good Food magazine has both a website and an app. Both are similar to the Food Network magazine layouts. The website offers year subscriptions and the availability to purchase them or not. The app offers the same options but also has a 50% of deal going on right now. They also offer old magazines to be bought. In the app you can pay $4.99 for each magazine or you have the option o purchase a subscription. I like the way the app is set up and would try to base mine around their concept.

Distribution research- Bon Appetit

Image
Bon appetit is well known for their YouTube channel, but they started as a magazine company. On the website you can find videos, merch, and a year subscription to their magazine. When looking I  couldn't find an app of any kind related to the brand. Other then there website, I believe they don't sell anywhere else. Taking from there ways of distribution, I would definitely make a website, but I wouldn't exclusivity sell them online, I would create an app and also sell in stores. I need to give more variety compared to bon appeitit magazine.

Distribution research- Food network Magazine

The Food network company has a website dedicated to their magazine. On this website you have the option to subscribe to get the magazine to your house. They provide to options, 2 year plan for $22 or a 1 year plan for $12. When you subscribe you will also get a free e-cook book from the food network. When scrolling down on the main page they have an offer going to start a free trial for the magazine. You fill out all of your information and they say on the website if you don't want to continue the subscription you, can cancel right away. They also have an app dedicated to the magazine. when you click on it you have 5 free minutes to view the magazine before you have to pay $4.99 for the issue or login to your subscription. This applies to all of the magazines, they have the most recent and goes all the way back to April 2012. For my magazine I would definitely be interested in making an app. Nowadays, people are reading magazines online then physical, so the app would really help ...

Revision #2

Image
On my table of contents, I didn't change much. I added branding and the page number to the bottom corner. As a group we finalized the fonts we would be using, so I changed the font on the "contents" to one I had on my cover. I slightly rearranged the article titles to be move even but over all I'm happy with what I created.

Traditional Distribution model

In a traditional magazine distribution, Magazine companies will either have one built into their company or they will find a third party distributor. These distributors will find places and shops to put your magazine in. They also may put advertising for your magazine in other magazines they handle or possibly put out ads. They utilize news stands, airports, supermarkets, convenience stores. Also you can find magazines in bookstores, boutiques, and some restaurants.

Revision #1

For my revision deals with my two paged article. My first version didn't have enough text and I needed to fit my pictures. So When i went back to fix it, i actually used Adobe Indesign instead of Publisher. I fixed my body text and even added a quote from the owner that was off of their website. Also i made the title bigger and added a dominate photo underneath. On the second page, I fixed my other pictures and text to fit around them. It definitely looks more professional and put together and I made sure to fill in all of the extra white space i had without making the text itself look too big. Also added branding and page numbers to the bottom pages. Overall I'm happy with the changes i made.

Marketing Plan

Image
Based on my research i plan on utilizing many ways that i learned from other magazines. First I plan on creating a website along side my magazine like Bon Appetite so i have a place to sell my magazine other than in local stores. Also creating a billboard would be cool, because my magazine is based in Sarasota, i could have on along one of the main roads there, to get tourists and locals to get interested. Also we created an Instagram account for our company/magazine. Its a free plat form that is available to use and also millions of people use daily. Both locals and tourists can then view our product and it will have the link to our website in the bio. On Instagram with a business profile, you can pay for promotions and that makes our posts pop up on peoples feeds.
