Audience Engagement Research- Sale & Pepe

Image
Sale & Pepe is a popular Italian magazine in Italy. They have a website that can be translated into English and other languages. and it includes recipes and subscriptions to their magazines. Their target audience is similar to mine because it focuses on aspiring cooks and people who just like looking at food. I looked up Italian based magazines and they are one of the first to pop up on google. So they must pay to have that top spot. Also they Offer them in other countries. I would take examples from here and use them in my own magazine on how to market them. Also they use Instagram to promote their magazine. I would also use Instagram and maybe Facebook for my magazine because its free and easy to use. Also because its so popular, many people will be able to view my content. But because its an Italy based magazine, I am not 100% sure if they use other marketing tactics like billboards or commercials. But i would use those to help get more locals to buy my magazine.

Audience Engagement Research- Everyday food

Image
Everyday food magazine is Martha Stewart's magazine. On top of the well known magazine, this brand had a YouTube channel and a PBS TV show. Our audiences are similar because they cater to all ages. I don't believe they have a website but they have a YouTube channel that can spread and share information about their business and other stuff.  I first learned about this magazine through their YouTube channel and when i did research about them i learned that they also have a PBS show. It just shows how much you can spread as a magazine business. I would use similar techniques and spread word of magazine though grocery stores and magazine stands. But i would invest into a website to get a wider range of  consumers.

Indesign class activity

Image
Today in class we utilized Adobe Indesign to layout our two page spread. The software itself is a bit confusing and it took me a few minutes to figure out the basics. Mr. Elsbree was very helpful in explain how to work the system and how to save our documents. I'm still confused on how to work with pictures and how to edit and maneuver them once they're on the document. The system is a bit overwhelming because their is just so much to work with and to figure out. I will definitely be using Indesign to revise my two page spread because it helps make the document look more put together and professional. I also plan on trying to perfect my skill with Adobe Indesign so i can become more accustomed to it.

Audience Engagement Research- Bon Appétit

Image
Bon Appetit is a magazine based in New York city. On top of their magazine they have an amazing website and a popular YouTube channel where they make recipes, do challenges and explore different restaurants or places. Doing these tactics appeal to all audiences. The magazine itself allows for people everywhere to view their work. Also it appeals to more of an older audience. But the website and YouTube channel appeal to a more younger audience or a more technical based audience. This magazine is similar to mine with the target audience because they cater to all ages. If I were to produce a magazine i would use the same forms of communication. The YouTube channel allows for more a free, easy to access way of learning for people. But also the physical magazine is nice to keep for years and you would have a physical copy to move and mess around with. I would also develop a website to spread and share my magazine. it would create a lot more foot traffic then just having the magazine in sto...

My target audience

My target audience: Age range: 20s and up but mostly older generations Gender: Mostly female but some male too Geography: Sarasota area Personal interest: Travel and food My product will be appealing to an older audience but can be used for any age. Sarasota has an older population but is also a tourist hub for families. So the magazine is both for locals and tourists.

Feedback and revisions

When presenting my midterm submission to the class i got some great feedback. I realized when transferring my pictures fro the cover it got distorted, also it has the american flag and when creating a Italian issue of my magazine it doesn't make sense to have the wrong country flag on the cover. So I plan on re shooting the cover photo to something more fitting. Also the 2 page article I had submitted was a little short and i could write more and re-structure it. I need a dominate photo on the top of the first page and maybe include more photos of the food at the restaurant because it is a food magazine. The last feedback I received was to make sure my group and I had the same fonts on the cover to make sure it looked like multiple issues of the same magazine. I need to reschedule my photo shoots and find a new model because the one I used actually moved to the Orlando area. Also i want to find a different location that has more of Italian influence and not American. By doing the...

Use of Conventions

I kind of went away from the normal conventions of a food magazine with the cover. Most food magazines feature food on the cover but I wanted to portray a different way. By featuring a person on the cover i make the magazine more humanistic. Also most food magazines feature food pictures throughout so my table of contents has a main focal point on it. my 2 page article isn't just a recipe which is common in the industry but its a local restaurant review. it makes the magazine more personal.
