Magazine Genre Research- Southern Living

  The cover has one main focal point. A roasted granny smith apple pie is centered on the cover. The pie is sitting on a white plate but its barely visible because the pie is so big. The title "Southern Living" is written across the top in orange letters and just above it, in a smaller font, is the issue title "A homemade Thanksgiving". The background of the cover is a Burgundy red, which makes the lighter colored food and titles stand out more. In the corners of the pages it looks like other dishware, almost giving the illusion that this is taken during the thanksgiving meal itself. On the top left corner of the pie is a circle with "The best pies and sides". This could be what types of articles are in this issue. Also on the bottom right corner, you can see other titles to articles that are featured in this issue. The ads inside the magazine are centered around food and food related items/ products. The ads are placed almost every other page/ article. Also some of the articles are viewed more towards an older audience. All of the article pictures in this magazine are focused towards thanksgiving foods and festivities involved. The circulation of this magazine is over 2 million and they havent been nominated for any awards.

For my revision deals with my two-paged article. My first version didn't have enough text and I needed to fit my pictures. So, When I went back to fix it, I used Adobe InDesign instead of Publisher. I fixed my body text and even added a quote from the owner that was off their website. Also, I made the title bigger and added a dominate photo underneath. On the second page, I fixed my other pictures and text to fit around them. It looks more professional and put together and I made sure to fill in all the extra white space I had without making the text itself look too big. Also added branding and page numbers to the bottom pages. Overall, I'm happy with the changes I made.  On my table of contents, I didn't change much. I added branding and the page number to the bottom corner. As a group we finalized the fonts we would be using, so I changed the font on the "contents" to one I had on my cover. Audience Engagement Research- Sale & Pepe

Sale & Pepe is a popular Italian magazine in Italy. They have a website that can be translated into English and other languages. and it includes recipes and subscriptions to their magazines. Their target audience is similar to mine because it focuses on aspiring cooks and people who just like looking at food. I looked up Italian based magazines and they are one of the first to pop up on google. So they must pay to have that top spot. Also they Offer them in other countries. I would take examples from here and use them in my own magazine on how to market them. Also they use Instagram to promote their magazine. I would also use Instagram and maybe Facebook for my magazine because its free and easy to use. Also because its so popular, many people will be able to view my content. But because its an Italy based magazine, I am not 100% sure if they use other marketing tactics like billboards or commercials. But i would use those to help get more locals to buy my magazine.

"How will your product engage with audiences" "How will it be distributed as a real media text" The magazines i researched focused a lot on certain types of food. Like the issue was based around one item or one culture.  Also majority of the magazines i researched, had other forms of  media for their brands. Bon appetit magazine also has a you tube channel to share content and information. Food network magazine has a whole tv network but also utilizes a website to help market and sell their magazine. With my magazine being  local based, I had the idea of creating a billboard on a main road in Sarasota, where i could spread publicity easier.   Basically for my magazine i would like to create an Instagram and other forms of media to lure/engage people in.
